Skull Cleaning & Degreasing

The foundation of a quality European mount starts with the cleaning process. Unlike other methods, which can damage the skull and trap grease and oil in the bone, we use Dermestid beetles to clean the flesh and cartilage from the skull, which leaves every bone intact down to the tiniest detail in the nasal cavity.

Following the cleaning, the skull undergoes a degreasing phase. The skull is submerged in a temperature-controlled solution designed to remove grease and draw out deep-seated oils that naturally occur within the bone. Depending on the species of the animal, the degreasing process can take a week to several months to remove the grease and oils. This ensures that your skull won't start yellowing months or years down the road.
